Our national wildlife refuges contend with many issues.

At Trempealeau:

  • The main entrance road often floods
in spring, making access difficult

  • Invasive species such as leafy spurge,
purple loosestife and black locust put
heavy  pressure on native plants.

  • The Refuge is home to a globally important
and endangered ecosystem, the oak savannah, so the pressure from                       invasive species is even more significant.

  • School groups seeking environmental education are turned away
because of inadequate facilities and staffing shortages.

  • The Refuge lies in one possible corridor for major electrical lines as
part of the CapX2020 Project.

Learn more about these issues so that you can be an informed supporter of the Refuge.
